The Mayflower - Nautical Ounce 1 Oz - 2020
With 102 passengers and an estimated 30 crew members, the Mayflower departed from Plymouth, England, in 1620 with all eyes set on a new life in the New World. The passengers on the Mayflower who would go on to form the Plymouth Colony in what is now Plymouth, Massachusetts, were English Puritans. The Puritans believed that the Church of England had failed to fully clear out the influences of the Catholic Church in favor of Protestantism. The Puritans wanted to start out a new life free of the Church of England in the New World that would be governed strictly by Protestantism.
For the obverse design field of 2020 Rwandan Silver Mayflower Nautical Ounce Coins, the design element focuses on the Mayflower as it makes its maiden voyage across the Atlantic Ocean. The Mayflower set sail from Plymouth on September 6, 1620, and made eye contact with what is now known as Cape Cod in Massachusetts on November 9, 1620.
In the reverse design element, the 2020 1 oz Rwandan Silver Mayflower Nautical Ounce Coin depicts the coat of arms for Rwanda. The national emblem for Rwanda features a small, traditional basket that is flanked by a branch of coffee and a stem of sorghum. Traditional shields defend the items on either side and the seal is encircled by a robe tied in a knot.
